In tribute to Birmingham Women’s Hospital Nursery Nurse, Amy Barnes, nee Shimell, Chief Executive of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Sarah-Jane Marsh, said:

“Amy was a truly incredible nursery nurse, who loved her job and was looking forward to a promotion to a new role in our neonatal unit in a few weeks’ time.

“Having worked with us since she left school, Amy had so many friends here and everyone who knew her talks of her bubbly and cheerful personality, whilst always remaining calm, incredibly professional and focused on getting to know her patients, and others, really well.

“Losing such a much-loved member of our team has been a huge shock. Our teams are like families – so for many of us this is like losing a member of our own family. It’s so sad that her life has been cut short at a time when she still had so much more to give and such a bright future ahead.

“On behalf of all who knew her at our hospital, our most heartfelt condolences go out to Amy’s family and friends. We will never forget her and the amazing difference she made to the lives of so many babies, mums and families.”
